For the past 4 or 5 years I've been in a book group that meets each month. Each of us takes turns choosing what books we read, and this time around we decided to do a theme. So, we agreed on Southern Literature. I love my book group because it allows me to read a variety of books that I would probably never choose for myself and to hear what others think about them.
This month we read Evidence of Things Unseen by Marianne Wiggins. I really, really liked this book. More so than any other book I've read in the past 6 months. Its one of those books that you keep thinking about days after you finish it. I even dreamt about it. It has really interesting, well-developed characters that I felt like I knew personally. Plus, I loved that it was set in Tennessee. It was neat to read about places I knew and about how local history unfolded. It focuses on 2 main characters, Fos and Opal, who fall in love, and then shows how their lives tragically fall apart. It also has a great character named Flash, who I can totally see being played by George Clooney if they ever make this into a movie. So, to sum up, memorable characters, heartbreaking plot, beautiful writing=great book!

I love that you are in a book club that is so neat! I love to read, but I tend to stick to book series and more popular reaadings so I'd like to get out of my comfort zone and try something new. I will have to try this one!
