Things have been stressful around our house lately because Owen decided to become a true Mama's boy. Only Mama will do when it comes to changing clothes, kissing boo boos, and on and on. This was fine until fall break was over and it was time to go back to preschool. I knew it would be rough for him after a full week of Mama time but I had no idea how bad!
On Tuesday of last week, he cried when I dropped him off and then I figured he'd be okay. Well, the school director called around 11:30 and said he was still upset. His preschool has never had to call me before, and he's gone there 2 days a week ever since he was 4 months old. So, I knew it had to be pretty bad. He'd been crying and asking for me so much they had to put him out in the hall so he wouldn't disturb the others. Then, he just got mad and started pinching himself on the knees. Sigh, what's a mom to do? I hated he was so upset but I knew if I picked him up he'd never go back. I told the school director to see if he'd lay down at nap time and then call me back. Well, long story short, he wouldn't touch his lunch (and Lord knows he never turns down food!). He laid down at naptime but only after both of his teachers laid down on each side of him! Yes, he's a demanding child:) Then he only slept 20 minutes and woke up screaming again. So, I went and picked him up.
Well, Thursday rolls around he started protesting school very early on. "No go school, Mommy" and "Mommy stay at school" were his favorite sayings. I told him that yes, he was going to school and I would not pick him up early no matter how much he cried. Yikes, that was hard! He pretty much cried all day they said.
Then, there's today. He cried as soon as we pulled out of the driveway. I just knew it would be another bad day and almost turned around and went home. I just prayed and kept driving. When we got there, I practically had to drag him in. I said a quick bye-bye and told the school director to call me if he cried more than 2 hours. I just knew I would get a call and I'd have to end up pulling him out of school altogether. Guess what....I didn't get a call! When I picked him up, both his teachers bragged about how good he was. He cried just a few minutes and then was fine the rest of the day. They said he even talked up a storm and sang songs. Whew, I'm so relieved and so proud of him. I really wanted him to stay in school so he'd get the socialization of other kids and maybe not be so attached to me. Plus, I need the time for me too! So, thanks for all the prayers of those out there who knew about this! God is good!

Go, Owen!
Parenting is just one roller-coaster after another isn't it?
To think I actually thought that giving birth would be the hardest part...Needless to say, I don't think that any more.
Glad he had a good day. sorry that you had to go through that but it sounds like he's learning. After Christmas it will likely suck too. :(
Ginelle I just found your blog - Yippee I'm so glad your doing this! I love your new pictures, I think we may try to use them for our new family pictures!
